Homer’s Odysseus faces a long journey home from a terrible war. His wife, Penelope, waits ten years for his return, and a further ten with no news. What happens in this twenty year span? In 2010, leading German playwright Roland Schimmelpfenning, was invited to participate in the Odyssey Europa project, an ambitious theatre project in Germany's Ruhr region. Tilman Raabke, chief dramaturg at Oberhausen Theatre, and architect Mattias Rick, commissioned six European playwrights to adapt stories and provide contemporary interpretations of Homer's Odyssey. Schimmelpfennig completed his own version of The Odyssey in May 2018. Toronto-based director Ross Manson has translated and directed Schimmelpfenning’s script for this production at the School of Performance.
