Tanya Evidente is an Assistant Professor of Dance at Ryerson University, School of
Performance. She teaches classical ballet and mentors all four years of students in the dance
Ms. Evidente began her dance training at Toronto Dance Theatre and received her formal ballet training at Canada’s National Ballet School and Prodanza in Havana, Cuba. She began her professional career with La Joven Guardia and Ballet Nacional de Cuba under the artistic directorship of Alicia Alonso. She furthered her career in Spain as a soloist with Ballet Ciutat de Barcelona and Ballet Jörgen in Canada. Ms. Evidente performed as an artist with the National Ballet of Canada under artistic directors James Kudelka and Karen Kain.
Throughout her professional career, Ms. Evidente has performed classical and contemporary ballets from world renowned choreographers, George Balanchine, John Cranko, Sir Kenneth Macmillan, James Kudelka, Stanton Welch, Glen Tetley, Elliot Feld, Jean Pierre Perrault, among others. She has also worked closely with international répétiteurs, Suzanne Farrell, Joysanne Sidimus, Patricia Neary, Elise Borne, Gloria Govrin, Nicolai Hübbe and Reid Anderson.
Ms. Evidente holds an M.A in Dance from York University. Her research interest is centred on the documentation and archival recordings of 130 and counting choreographic works of Canadian leading ballet and modern choreographer, James Kudelka. She participates and presents her research at international conferences and continues to publish her work. Ms. Evidente also serves as Secretary for the World Dance Alliance Americas.
